All tutoring is billed at $100 per 80-minute session.
First, students print and complete a baseline SAT and ACT at home, proctored by a parent, and send me the results. During a free consultation via FaceTime or Zoom, I’ll let you know which test I recommend for you, but the choice is ultimately yours. Your baseline tests are yours to keep whether or not you choose to work with me.
As we begin tutoring, I’ll do a porch drop off of materials, including my structured curriculum, a silenced watch if testing on paper, and a book containing five practice tests. I do suggest making sure you have printer paper and ink on hand, since students will need to print worksheets, sections, and exams throughout the process.
Most students meet with me twice a week for 7-8 weeks, then once a week for at least four weeks, until their first official test. During the first phase of tutoring, we work through math and English curriculum, and the student learns to mark up the test effectively, how to make smart skips, and how to manage the timing. During the second phase of tutoring, students take weekly practice tests at home, then complete a test-review session with me. During the session, we go over missed questions and make any needed adjustments to the test plan.
The ACT still offers the essay, which isn’t required by most schools but may improve your application. For students who sign up for it, I’ll offer some guidance and brief practice toward the end of the tutoring process— it’s nothing to stress about.
While some students are one-and-done, I always recommend initially planning on taking two official tests. This gives you some leeway if you wake up feeling sick the day of the official test (etc etc) and takes some of the test-day pressure off.
